Arts-and-Entertainment Chelseas Agora Gallery will feature a German artist, Corina Schmidt, in Contemporary German Art: The New York Experience. The exhibition is scheduled to run from March 25, 2011 through April 15, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, March 31, 2011). About the Artist Self-taught artist Corina Schmidt has found motivation for her art in trips all over the world. Just as her inspiration is wide-ranging, so too are her materials. She works in oils and acrylics, as well as collages and with gold and silver. Corina has said that her works are inspired by an aesthetic dedication to uninhibited artistic expression and that she expresses her deepest emotions in her art. She paints for the love of the work itself, and also to gain perspective on traumatic events like war and to communicate this to the viewer. A sensual, visual arc of shapes often thrives on Corinas canvases, as dark and light forms engage in dramatic counterbalance with a freewheeling yet focused energy. She builds her works in layers of color on an underlying structure, and she often manipulates the paint like a sculptor with a scraping technique. The results are her creation of stunning, abstract images of visual beauty and emotional resonance.
